CAD Newswire - UK Version

Manager's Note

Dear Customer

This is the final CAE Newswire of the year and am pleased to advise that it has been a good year.

Despite the recession, our overall sales are marginally ahead of last year, and I would like to thank all of our customers for their continued business and support.  It is you, our customers, that make Fern a successful company.

We wish all our readers Season's Greetings and look forward to supporting you in 2010.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Best wishes

Steve Gillott
CAE Sales Manager

CodeCalc - final reminder

From 1st January 2010 CodeCalc is being discontinued as a separate product.

CodeCalc will continue to form part of the PV Elite product.

PV Elite has all of the capabilities of CodeCalc included you will not lose any functionality. A comparison chart between the two products can be viewed here.

CodeCalc will ship until 31st December 2009. Those currently on maintenance at that time will be upgraded to PV Elite. PV Elite will remain at its current full listed price during this offer.

Development and support of CodeCalc as a single product will end on 31st December 2009.

So what's needed as of 31st December 2009 to be upgraded to PV Elite free of charge?

Either of the following:

  • Be current on your CodeCalc UMS
  • Renew your CodeCalc UMS

Contact us before 31st December 2009 to find out how you can become more effective in your pressure vessel and heat exchanger design and analysis.

Note that customers who are upgraded to PV Elite will be liable for PV Elite maintenance charges when renewals are due.
This is an increase of approximately £300 (plus VAT).

PV Elite 2010

PV Elite 2010 is currently undergoing beta testing and will be released shortly. This new release has many additional features and benefits.

Highlights include:

  • ASME Section VIII Division 1 and Division 2 09 addenda updates are incorporated (with important changes to ASME part UHX for Shell and Tube heat Exchangers, UG-37 for Split repads and The Appendix 1 Thick Cylinder and Sphere equations)
  • U-Tube tubesheets per EN-13445 can be analysed
  • The Division 2 saddle analysis is now available instead of the 'Zick' analysis
  • Ear type and perpendicular lifting lugs can be analysed
  • WRC Bulletin 297 is now included with the other local stress analysis options (WRC 107 and PD 5500 Annex G). The comparison of stresses to allowables is also included
  • The ASME material databases have been enhanced and include several new columns of information including low temperature properties for low temperature materials
  • The Shear Force check in the Nozzle per UG-45 has been implemented
  • The default angular orientation for Nozzles, Platforms, Clips etc can be changed

Existing customers on UMS will receive their new software in the first few weeks of 2010.  If you are not current with UMS and wish to receive this latest version, please contact Steve Gillott to obtain information on reinstatement.

Important Note: PV Elite 2010 will still incorporate CodeCalc.  If you are a CodeCalc user (see Final Reminder above) and qualify for a FREE upgrade to PV Elite then you will still have the ability to use CodeCalc, if preferred.  CodeCalc capabilities will also be upgraded in PV Elite 2010.

Did you know?

PV Fabricator

It is possible to export the Material List and/or the Nozzle Schedule from PV Fabricator to a database.  Simply CTRL + Right Click on the Material List (or Nozzle Schedule) table and select 'Export to DB'.  The export facilitates Access, Excel, Text or XML formats via a 'Target Database' dialogue.

PV Elite

The mechanical design of heat exchangers can be performed in accordance with 3 different design codes, ASME UHX, PD 5500 and TEMA.  Process design details can also be imported into PV Elite via the ‘HTRI in’ capability.

CAESAR II

Up to 999 load cases can now be accommodated in CAESAR II.

FEBend

FEBend is a finite element analysis program for analysing bends and elbows with a round pipe or structural steel attachment (e.g. trunnion attachments, dummy branches and swept tees).  Stress Intensification Factors (SIFs) are calculated automatically.

NozzlePRO

NozzlePRO also has a Saddle wizard with pipe shoe options for repads, fluid head, tapered saddles, and user controlled boundary conditions

FE661

Because FE661 uses the finite element method, it is independent of any geometric limitations used in the design standard (API 661 rectangular box headers used in air coolers)

Enjoy a stress free season!

Training

Three of our engineers are currently engaged in training for PV Elite, CADWorx Plant, CADWorx P&ID and PV Fabricator over a 2 week period at one of our customers in Turkey.
Would you benefit from such a course?  We can deliver a Customer Specific course at your site at a mutually convenient date.  Ensure that your users are getting the best from your software and arrange a course at your site in the New Year by contacting Steve Gillott
We offer customer specific training in CAESAR II, PV Elite and PV Fabricator.

Scheduled courses in all products are available in 2010.  Please visit our web site to see training content, pricing and dates.

Consultancy

Our stress analysis consultancy services team remains busy to the end of the year.
If you are experiencing a peak or you are not confident in a specialist topic (Dynamics, Waterhammer, FRP analysis etc) then contact Steve Gillott to see if we can assist you.
Alternatively, attend a training course which addresses the gap in your expertise.
