Manager's Note

Dear Client

First of all a big “Thank You” to all our customers.  Over the year our sales have increased and we are now COADE’s top selling Global Partner.

Of course we have to work hard to stay there, so we look forward to working with all of you during the coming months.  We will be bringing you all the new product releases, with excellent features and new capabilities.  We will also be presenting at the COADE worldwide User Group Conference in Houston September 28th-30th.

AFT have just released a new module targeted at those industries that move solids with liquids. Read about the Settling Slurry module below.

We are here to help, so if you need assistance call us.

Best wishes

Steve Gillott
CAE Sales Manager

Training

A reminder that our scheduled training courses start again in September and bookings are being taken either directly (please contact Steve Gillott) or via our web site booking form.

Our scheduled Autumn courses are:

PV Elite 22 - 24 September
CAESAR II Statics 5 -9 October

Our PV Elite courses are suitable for new users and experienced designers.  Different types of pressure vessels are addressed in addition to nozzle analysis, heat exchanger design and links to FEA.   Codes addressed include ASME VIII, PD 5500, EN 13445 and API 579.

The CAESAR II training course is an excellent 5 day training session tutored by one of the world’s best and most experienced engineers. This course is excellent both as an introduction or a refresher.  Pipe design theory and design code requirements are addressed in addition to learning how to solve real life problems using CAESAR II.

Comments from our June course include:

“Excellent, informative and well run course”

“For me all sections were useful, a lot of new information regarding software”.

Note:  If you do require training in CAESAR II Statics analysis or PV Elite and cannot attend a scheduled course, then why not arrange for one of our engineers to visit your site.  We charge a daily rate plus a small fee per delegate.  Please enquire with Steve Gillott.

Hints & Tips

CAESAR II, PV Elite, Tank

COADE has a discussion forum for all of the above programs.  Solve your problems by ‘speaking’ with other users and COADE here.

PV Elite

Any nozzle angle can be manually specified by using the ANG=xx.x command in the nozzle description field.

FE Bend

FEBend is an easy to use finite element analysis program for analysing bends and elbows with a round pipe or structural steel attachment with output to ASME.

Software News:

PV Fabricator

PV Fabricator has now been seen by a number of our customers with very positive feedback.   Recent comments include “I can see great time saving using the links between the 3D model and Mechanical Design” and “this would also be a great tool for our sales team to quickly generate basic models for costing”

PV Fabricator is able to create a 3D model of your pressure vessel quickly and easily.  It may then be exported to PV Elite for design code compliance checking.  Alternatively, the vessel may be created by PV Elite and then imported by PV Fabricator.  Once the 3D model has been finalised, 2D fabrication drawings can be created rapidly resulting in productivity increases between 50% and 80%.  Design changes can be made within PV Elite or the 3D model and the changes incorporated automatically within the 2D drawing and associated Bill of Material and Nozzle Schedule data.

Productivity increases are greatest when used with PV Elite.  Please contact Steve Gillott for a demonstration to see how PV Fabricator may be able to improve the creation of your deliverables.

Tank

Tank is used to design/analyse Oil Storage Tanks to the API 650 and API 653 design codes.
Analyses can also take into account wind, seismic and settlement conditions in addition to calculating air venting requirements to API 2000.

Other features include Nozzle Loads and Flexibilities, Shell Course Thicknesses, Supported Cone Roofs.

After completing an analysis, users can view the results in a tabular report or as a graphic diagram with associated data.  For convenience in verifying the results, the output reports reference code sections used where applicable.

AFT Fathom SSL

We are pleased to announce the release of the Settling Slurry (SSL) module for AFT Fathom.

The SSL module is targeted at those industries that move solids with liquids. This module is released as an add-on licence for AFT Fathom.

Download the overview or contact Steve Gillott for more information.

FE661

FE661 addresses a requirement that is very poorly serviced by the software development industry.

Air coolers are commonly designed using the API 661 standard and FE661 is a finite element analysis program for analysing rectangular box headers used in air coolers.

The rectangular geometry of the box header is often outside the capabilities of pressure vessel design software based on analytical methods.  Further, the nozzles are commonly non-circular to maximize flow area while keeping the depth of the header shallow to minimize bending stresses in the plates.

Key benefits of FE661 include:

  • Automated calculation of stress intensification factors and flexibilities
  • Automated ASME code compliance check
  • Context sensitive graphics that illustrate program input
  • External loads applied on nozzle (piping)
  • Fatigue calculations for piping and pressure vessel codes
  • Nozzle types: Obloswage, Reinforced, Straight, Tapered
Rich DirectX graphics illustrate model and results
