Director's Note

Dear Customer

The holiday season is upon us and we wish everyone very happy holidays.

The forthcoming Intergraph price changes have created substantial work.  Some increases are larger than we first perceived, some are smaller.

For new licences we will be quoting current prices for orders up to 30th September, after which new pricing will apply.  If you need additional licences you should consider buying them before 30th September.  If in doubt, ask for a quotation to quantify the saving.

For UMS (updates, maintenance and support), again we will be quoting current prices for orders up to 30th September.  More importantly, we are offering customers the opportunity to forward purchase up to 3 years of UMS at current pricing.  We strongly recommend that customers make use of this opportunity.

We have already started issuing individual letters to all UMS customers providing a direct statement of the price increases that your company will experience.  We should have letters issued to ALL customers by August 6th.  If you have not received your letter by August 11th then please contact us and we will check.  This is important; substantial savings can be made by pre-purchasing.

Many thanks for your business.

Best wishes

Ian Borrington
Director

New AFT Module

AFT’s pipe system modelling software, AFT Fathom, is now able to address both non-settling slurries and general non-Newtonian fluids by calculating viscosity changes and the frictional effects of these fluids on pipes, valves and fittings when designing a system.

The Non-Settling Slurry Module (NSL) uses widely accepted methodologies and automates the process of determining Power Law and Bingham Plastic constants for non-Newtonian fluids. This avoids the pitfalls of manual calculations.

Raw, rheological test data can be accepted and manipulated to make it useful for full scale engineering designs, calculations, and simulations.

The NSL module also offers a method to adjust junction and fitting loss data to extend turbulent data into the laminar region to compensate for non-Newtonian fluid behaviour.

To find out more about the NSL module, please click here.

AFT Updates

New maintenance releases are available for download (AFT Impulse and AFT Mercury), see links below.

Mercury  Impulse

You will also find instructions on how to install the update.

The update file set includes a readme.txt file providing a description of the revisions in this and earlier maintenance releases.

Consultancy

To assist you, we are able to perform Statics and Dynamics analysis of piping systems to a range of design codes.

See here for an overview.

Training

PRG Software Training

Some places still remain on this unique course focusing on Advanced Piping Design (days 1 & 2) and Practical Application of FEA (days 3 & 4).
Delegates may attend the first two, the last two, or all 4 days depending on the area of interest.

Advanced Piping Analysis

13th / 14th September
Practical Application of FEA   15th / 16th September

For the course outline schedule and to book a place on the course, please see our website or contact Steve Gillott. IE6 users click here.

Intergraph CAESAR II Training

CAESAR II Statics and Dynamics training took place at Fern from 12th to 21st July. The courses were enjoyed by delegates from England, Scotland, Turkey, Nigeria and Egypt, with tuition by Dave Diehl, a Professional Engineer from Intergraph CAS, Houston.

Our next scheduled course is CAESAR II Statics from 18th to 22nd October.

Please see here for details, booking etc. IE6 users click here.

Hints & Tips

CAESAR II

Automatically performs a "hydro-test" load case with "locked" spring hangers.

Spring hanger usage can be controlled on a load case by load basis.  Load cases can use the designed stiffness, a rigid stiffness or no stiffness at hanger locations.

Results from hanger design load cases can be viewed by changing the load case status from "discard" to "keep".

PV Elite

Three different pressure design options are available for nozzles.

Is able to model and analyse internal heads.
Section type stiffeners can be added by choosing the Section Type Ring.

Tank

Tank can perform both "design" and "analysis" (for existing Tanks) functions.

This addresses Cone, Supported Cone, Rafter Supported Cone, Dome and Umbrella type roofs.

Tank calculates nozzles flexibilities and allowable loads for "design", "test" and "user" based conditions.

Webinars

The two webinars listed below have taken place since our last Newswire:
