Manager's Note
Dear Customer
Well, we are still in the shadow of winter so in a quiet time for new products and program updates.
AFT continues to develop at a pace, so keep up to date with changes so that you do not miss opportunities to benefit from their products.
Intergraph’s acquisition of COADE has increased administration issues on new licences and we apologise for this, but we do expect this to be a transient problem that will soon settle down to a "normal" expectation. Lots of training courses are available and some are already close to full, so early action is recommended.
If you are a skier, enjoy the weather. Otherwise, roll on Spring.
Best wishes
Ian Borrington
Director
CAESAR II V5.20
A new build (100122) for CAESAR II Version 5.20 is available for download.
Changes in this build include:
- Amendments to code computations for ISO-14692, TD/12, B31.8 VIII
- Additional enhancements to the graphics
- The Stoomwezen approval certificate is included
- Modifications to the MS Word export function
For a complete list of the full changes, please refer to the build.txt file on the download page.
PV Elite and CodeCalc
As you will know from previous Newswires, from 1st of January 2010, CodeCalc is no longer available as a standalone application. However, it remains part of the PV Elite program. Many of our CodeCalc customers will be installing their upgrade to PV Elite they received through the special promotion held over the last few months. A simple program has been created to transfer the client’s old CodeCalc licenses to PV Elite. For further information on the transfer program please contact our CAE technical support team.
AFT
Effective from 1st of April 2010, support for the old token/floppy disk and parallel port licensing methods will end.
To see how to migrate your license to the current method by visiting the latest news section on AFT website.
Consultancy
Currently we are fairly busy with stress analysis projects but some are progressing towards project completion.
We continue to look for additional projects and our qualified staff will be pleased to assist you.
Please contact Steve Gillott for more information on our range of CAE products and consultancy services. |

Hints & Tips
CAESAR II: Show/Hide Tooltips
The January 2010 build provides users with context menu control to turn off the pop-up element information Tool-Tip.
In the piping input 3D modelling window, right click anywhere in the modelling window and select the last option from the drop menu list, Hide Tooltips.
To re-enable, right click in the modelling window again and select Show Tooltips from the menu list.
CAESAR II: Static Seismic Wizard
CAESAR II version 5.20 offers a Static Seismic Wizard to quickly determine the G Factor used in Static Seismic loading conditions.
The Seismic Wizard allows the selection of three seismic codes, ASCE 07-05/IBC 2006, CFE Sismo and NBC 2005, from which the G Factor is computed and applied in the Uniform Loads grid. This loading input will then be available in the static load case editor to be incorporated into the code specific load cases.
PV Elite
You can zero the generated wind pressure on an element by setting its Wind Diameter Multiplier to zero.
The WRC 297 Bulletin is now included with the other local stress analysis options (WRC 107 and PD 5500 Annex G) within the Nozzle Dialogue in PV Elite 2010. The comparison of stresses to allowables is also included.
FE017
FE107 software uses FEA technology to provide stress analysts an additional tool for performing stress analysis of nozzle connections on piping and pressure vessels.
FE107 replaces WRC 107 as a calculation tool that can be applied when WRC 107 correlational methods are limited.
AFT
In addtion to handling pipe flow in cylindrical pipe geometry, AFT products can also handle flow in rectangular ducts, cylindrical annuli, non-cylindrical pipe and helical tube
Custom databases can be created for components, pipe materials, insulation and fluid properties. By reusing previously entered data users can control quality and save time.
AFT Fathom can model variable speed pumps. It can calculate the speed required to deliver a specified discharge pressure/head or flow. The required speed is displayed in the pump summary of the output window.
Training
CAESAR II Fern will be delivering the Statics scheduled training as a three day course from 22nd to 24th February 2010.
PV Elite A scheduled course will run from 1st to 3rd March 2010.
Vacancies are still available on the above courses.
Please visit our website and download the relevant booking form or contact Steve Gillott.
Advanced Piping & FEA
Multi-product training will take place from 4th to 7th May 2010.
This new course has content created by Tony Paulin (B31 committee member) which addresses advanced piping analysis issues on days 1 and 2 and the practical application of FE analysis on days 3 and 4.
There will also be a focus on the new mandatory ASME Section VIII, Division 2 A08 Addenda.
See our here for full details, course topics and booking.
Customer specific training courses are still available throughout the year for both CAESAR II and PV Elite. They take place either at Fern or customer site and are in addition to the scheduled courses in these products.
Fern scheduled training courses accommodate up to 16 delegates and a standard course contant, whilst customer specific courses offer the opportunity to customise the course for specific requirements. |
