Manager's Note
Dear [First Name]
You should have already received the News Release from Intergraph Inc. of Huntsville USA, advising that COADE Inc is now a part of their organisation.
For many years Intergraph has been one of the leading suppliers of high-end CAD products in the Plant and Process environments as well as in Mechanical, Construction, GIS and all other sectors of the Engineering & Design markets.
COADE, the world’s leading provider of Plant and Process Analysis software with their CAESAR II Pipe Stress and PV Elite Pressure Vessel software, also provides the CADWorx Plant Design solution.
COADE’s CADWorx range has been the top selling Plant Design solution for entry and mid range level users. There is now a future opportunity for an upgrade path to Intergraph’s SmartPlant and PDS, products that have traditionally targeted high end multi engineering usage. Intergraph and COADE have worked together for some time in COADE’s use of Intergraph’s ISOGEN and its use is likely to be further enhanced.
As COADE’s Global Network Partner for Western Europe, Fern welcomes the change and looks forward to a future that enhances the position of customers and products.
Finally a short update on Fern’s performance in 2009. As published last month, despite the recession, you, our customers, helped us grow a little and we thank you for it. We added regional reseller teams in Spain, Portugal and Italy, and added products and staff to operations. In all, a successful year enhanced by the recent confirmation from COADE that Fern sold more COADE product than anyone else worldwide.
Thank you, and we wish you all a successful and prosperous 2010.
Best wishes
Ian Borrington
Director
PV Elite 2010
PV Elite 2010 was released on 1st January and will be distributed to all of our customers who are current with their Update, Maintenance and Support (UMS) contracts over the next few weeks. All customers whose UMS contracts expired in December may still be able to receive this update if renewal is received by Fern before the end of January. After this date, then reinstatement charges will apply in order to renew the UMS contract and receive the new version.
PV Elite 2010 includes the following new features:
- ASME Section VIII Division 1 and Division 2 09 addenda updates are incorporated. These include changes to ASME part UHX for Shell and Tube heat Exchangers, UG-37 for Split repads and The Appendix 1 Thick Cylinder and Sphere equations.
- U-Tube tubesheets per EN-13445 can be analysed
- The Division 2 saddle analysis is now available instead of the 'Zick' analysis
- Ear type and perpendicular lifting lugs can be analysed
- WRC Bulletin 297 is now included with the other local stress analysis options (WRC 107 and PD 5500 Annex G). The comparison of stresses to allowables is also included.
- ASME material databases have been enhanced and include several new columns of information including low temperature properties for low temperature materials.
- The Shear Force check in the Nozzle per UG-45 has been implemented.
- The default angular orientation for Nozzles, Platforms, Clips etc can be changed
CAESAR II Version 5.20
The latest build for CAESAR II is imminent. Please look out for this here.

Did You Know?
PV Elite Can now assess U Tube tubesheets to the requirements of EN 13445 (PV Elite 2010)
CAESAR II Is able to take account of the Bourdon Effect in a piping system, i.e. the displacement effect due to pressure. To initiate this, go to Special Execution Parameters and select 'Activate Bourdon Effects (for this job)'.
NozzlePRO Allows the attachment of 10 different structural shapes to shells, heads and cones.
AFT Not only can the AFT products handle pipe flow in cylindrical pipe geometry they can also handle rectangular duct, cylindrical annulus, noncylindrical pipe and helical tube.
Training
I would just like to remind that we provide 'Customer specific' training courses either at Fern or at the customer’s site. These courses, usually delivered to between 2 and 8 delegates from a single company, offer the customer the opportunity to customise their course more to their requirements. Please contact Marijana Bicanic for more details.
Scheduled courses in all products are available in 2010. Please visit our web site to view content, pricing and dates.
PV Elite Webinar
COADE will be hosting a special webinar on 19th January to show the new capabilities in PV Elite 2010.
Click on the link for information on or to register for the PV Elite 2010 webinar.
ASME VIII Div 2
In our October 2009 Newswire we announced that we would be pleased to run a specific training course on ASME VIII Div 2 in conjunction with COADE.
We need a few more delegates to make this course viable and will seek to finalise a date suitable for all candidates.
Please contact Marijana Bicanic if you are interested.
'As-Built' Stress Analysis
Companies responsible for the integrity of critical piping systems should be aware that theoretical and as-built systems can vary tremendously. Changes in site conditions, restrictions, limitations and time scales mean that the system as initially analysed is seldom reflected in the final erection. This in turn means that a system which appeared to be acceptable in respect of design code requirements is in fact, in violation due to the differences between intended and actual construction.
If you are responsible for the safety and integrity of a piping system, ensure that you include the time and cost associated with your team re-assessing the as-built system.
